We take adoptions very seriously. We want to make sure our adoptable kitties go to a FOREVER home, where they will be happy and healthy for the rest of their lives as much as humanly possible! Be sure to give our terms a look-over to keep our adoptions efficient and honest!
Please note that this same information will also be delivered to you and signed off on a physical paper application at the time of finalizing the adoption.
Respectful Treatment: The Adopter agrees to treat the adopted
cat as a valued member of the family and provide the cat with love, care, and respect,
recognizing the cat's individual needs, preferences, and personal space.
No Declawing Policy: The Adopter understands and agrees never to declaw the cat,
recognizing that it is a harmful and inhumane procedure that can cause physical and behavioral
issues for the cat.
Indoor-Only Policy: The Adopter commits to keeping the cat strictly indoors and agrees
not to allow the cat to roam freely outdoors. Outdoor access may only be allowed in a secure and
supervised environment, such as an enclosed cat enclosure or leash training. In the case of a
cat enclosure or leash training, the cat will not be left alone and will have human supervision
at all times while outdoors.
Medical Care: The Adopter agrees to provide all necessary and regular medical care to the
cat, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, and prompt attention to any health concerns
that may arise. The cat should have regular veterinary check-ups at intervals recommended by the
veterinarian.
Rehoming the Cat: In the event that the Adopter finds themselves unable to care for the
cat properly for any reason, the Adopter will notify Public Sq Kitties as soon as possible.
Public Sq Kitties will work with the Adopter to explore alternative solutions, such as rehoming
the cat to a suitable home. If no suitable solution is found, Public Sq Kitties retains the
right to take the cat back without judgement. In the event that Adopter finds a suitable
alternative home for the cat, Adopter must contact Public Sq Kitties with the name, address, and
phone number of the proposed new adopter. Any proposed new adopter is required to complete an
adoption application and obtain prior written approval from Public Sq Kitties as well as meet
any applicable adoption requirements.
Return Policy: In the event that the Adopter wishes to return the adopted cat or in any
way remove the cat from their care, they must contact Public Sq Kitties before taking any
action. Adopter must make proper arrangements with Public Sq Kitties regarding the date, time,
and place of the return and cannot return the cat without prior documented approval. The Adopter
will continue to care for the cat until the cat has been delivered to Public Sq Kitties and
agrees to take all necessary steps to ensure the safe return of the cat to Public Sq
Kitties.
Transfers: The Adopter agrees that they will not transfer permanent custody or possession
of the cat to anyone, including family or friends or any entity or agency, without Public Sq
Kitties’s prior approval.
Right to Reclaim: Public Sq Kitties reserves the right to visit the cat's new home to
ensure that the cat is being treated in accordance with the terms of this agreement. In the
event that Public Sq Kitties finds evidence of mistreatment or neglect, Public Sq Kitties
retains the right to reclaim the cat and provide them with a different home that meets their
needs.
Spaying and Neutering Requirement: The Adopter agrees that all other cats currently
residing in their household must be or are already spayed or neutered. If any other cats in the
household are not yet spayed or neutered, the Adopter will make arrangements for the procedure
to be completed within a reasonable timeframe, as recommended by a qualified
veterinarian.
Introductions and Socialization: The Adopter will take necessary precautions and follow
proper introduction protocols when bringing the newly adopted cat into a household with other
cats. The Adopter will actively facilitate positive interactions and socialization between the
cats to ensure a harmonious living environment.
Ongoing Support and Education: The Adopter is encouraged to seek assistance and guidance
from Public Sq Kitties or another credible rescue or feline educator at any point during the
cat's life. Public Sq Kitties operates as a support line and is dedicated to providing helpful
information and advice to ensure a happy and fulfilling forever home for the cat. The Adopter
can contact Public Sq Kitties with questions or concerns or for educational resources related to
cat care and behavior.
